TOLEDO, Ohio — There was a scary situation at a central Toledo apartment building early Sunday evening when a fire started in a 6th floor unit.
The fire started around 4:30 p.m. at TenEyck Towers on 21st St. near Madison Ave.
According to Toledo Fire and Rescue, a male resident had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation after escaping from the fire in their apartment. They are in stable condition.
Smoke alarms alerted them to the fire.
Toledo fire says no one else was injured.
Multiple engines and ambulances responded to the fire.
Firefighters used a ladder truck to reach the apartment.
Evidence of smoke could be seen above two windows. An air conditioning unit was also pulled out of the wall.
Toledo fire says damage appears to be contained to the one apartment pending further investigation.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the identity of the victim is unknown.
The central Toledo senior citizen apartment building is administered by Lucas Metropolitan Housing and has 154 units.
Residents who were evacuated are being allowed back into the building.
