Four fire fighters injured in late-night home explosion

Four fire fighters were injured after responding to a home fire on Sylvan Ridge Dr. off of Alexis Road early Saturday morning.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A fire at a home in west Toledo caused multiple non-life-threatening injuries overnight Saturday.

According to Toledo Fire and Rescue , crews responded to Sylvan Ridge Drive off of Alexis Road at around 12:40 a.m.

All occupants of the home were able to escape and three cats were rescued out of the home.

When fire crews entered the home to extinguish the fire an explosion occurred in the garage. As a result, the incident commander on scene called a mayday after several firefighters were reported missing and one was reported down outside of the house.

According to Battalion Chief Dexter Baker, four firefighters were injured, all with non-life-threatening injuries. Three of the crew members were transported to a local hospital out of precaution.

The home sustained partial damage in the incident. Surrounding homes were not damaged.

According to TFD, most of the fire came from the attic, but the cause of the fire is unclear and is currently under investigation.
