Brian Dugger is an investigative reporter for WTOL 11, using what he learned from a line of talented Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists while working at the Toledo Blade for more than 20 years.
Journalism has been a passion for him since learning to read by poring over newspaper stories about his beloved Cleveland Indians as a child.
He graduated from Bowling Green State University after interning at the BG News and El Pais in Madrid, Spain.
While at The Blade, he worked in every department of the newspaper, including serving on the editorial board, where he championed the need for universal preschool and a regional water system and reported extensively on the ongoing opioid epidemic. As a features writer, he interviewed the top names in music, covered the region's beer industry, and shed light on the struggles faced by those suffering from mental disorders.
As a reporter on the state desk, he investigated a potential cancer cluster in Tiffin, won an award for his reporting on a runaway train, and detailed residents' battle against an egg farm in Marseilles, Ohio. In 2016, he pieced together the personal history of a World War II veteran, whose ashes had been abandoned in a storage unit. His reporting led to the ashes being transported to the cemetery at the head of an escort from dozens of Toledo area bikers, followed by a military service.
On a personal level, he is an avid runner who has completed eight marathons and he enjoys exploring the hundreds of miles of running trails around the Toledo area.
