BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — A famous country singer and songwriter will perform a free concert at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) during the university's annual Homecoming festivities in September.
The university has booked award-winning country singer Phil Vassar as a part of its 2024 Homecoming celebration, according to a press release from the university. Vassar will perform a free, 90-minute concert on Sept. 28 at the Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
The 2:30 p.m. concert will precede the university's Homecoming football game against the Old Dominion Monarchs, which will kick off at 5 p.m. The game will be followed by a free fireworks show.
Vassar is known for writing songs such has "Carlene," "Just Another Day in Paradise" and "In a Real Love". He has been recognized for his work with multiple awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. In the past, he has worked with other artists, including Alan Jackson, Collin Raye, Tim McGraw and Jo Dee Messina.
BGSU's Homecoming weekend, titled "One University, Countless Experiences," begins Sept. 26 and ends Sept. 29. Scheduled events during the weekend include an all-campus picnic, a circus thrill show and more.
