City of Bryan preparing for 73rd annual Jubilee celebration

The event draws thousands to the city of Bryan with organizers expecting over 7,000 visitors this year.

BRYAN, Ohio — The city of Bryan is getting ready for its 73rd Jubilee celebration.

The event brings in many people from across three states.

According to the Bryan Area Chamber of Commerce, the Jubilee brought in 7,000 visitors at one point last year.

Crews in downtown Bryan are hard at work preparing for the historic Jubilee celebration.

"We try to support locally, we try to donate what we can to schools and fundraisers," Leslie Pence, the owner of Pence's Carmel Corn which operates many of the booths at the Jubilee said.

The event is something good for not only bringing the community together but also the local economy.

"It generates a lot of income coming in that people that don't necessarily see," Daniel Yahraus, the director of the Bryan Area Chamber of Commerce said. "And it also is an opportunity for people that can't get to Disney World, they can come up and enjoy rides and games and food and not go far."

The amount of vendors is also up this year, according to the Chamber of Commerce. Bryan Mayor Carrie Schlade said this event brings a lot to the city.

The Jubilee began in 1947 and has now become an annual tradition. It missed two years during the pandemic.

"The chamber started the Jubilee to pay for Recreation Park in the city of Bryan which is a beautiful facility that we host many things in," Schlade said. "And they have continued to bring quality events including our fireworks to the community and beyond through this event and beyond."

This event used to be a week-long event but it was changed to three days to focus more on the local vendors.

"This is where I grew up, I grew up on the road doing this stuff," Vendor Tyler Wildenberg said. "I'm from Bryan, Ohio and it means everything to me to be able to come back to my hometown and give them good food, good service and new items. Stuff you can't normally get."

The event begins tomorrow and runs through Saturday:

  • Thursday, June 13, 5-11 p.m.
  • Friday, June 14, 3-11 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 15, 1-11 p.m.
