TOLEDO, Ohio — The National Museum of the Great Lakes has announced the first presentation of its 2024 Fall Lecture Series.
The first presentation is on Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 7-8:30 p.m. and features speaker Catherine Schmuck for her lecture, "A Glimpse into the Life of a Great Lakes Ship's Cook."
According to the National Museum of the Great Lakes, Schmuck, a freighter chef, will share her experiences cooking for crews aboard Great Lakes ships.
"We’re thrilled to kick off our fall season with such a fun and unique look at life working on a freighter,” said Carrie Sowden, director of archaeology and research at the National Museum of the Great Lakes. “It’s a great opportunity to take a deeper dive into the maritime world.”
The National Museum of the Great Lakes said participants can attend the meeting in person or virtually through Zoom. There is no cost to attend the event but registration is required.
In addition to the lecture, the museum is also hosting a book signing with Schmuck from 3-4:30 p.m. The museum said visitors can meet the speaker and get signed copies of her cookbook, "Ship to Shore," and her children's book, "The Stowaway Adventures of Mitchell Mouse." No registration is required for the book signing event.
To register for the lecture or learn more about the events, call the museum at 419-214-5000 or visit the museum's website at this link.
