MAUMEE, Ohio — The Toledo Humane Society said 15 of the 19 puppies rescued over the summer in 90-degree weather survived, marking "an incredible 80% survival rate."
The humane society said the puppies were weak, lethargic and fighting for their lives. According to THS, all 19 puppies tested positive for canine parvovirus.
"Our dedicated medical team acted immediately, providing fluids, vitamins, and around-the-clock care. Against the odds, 15 of the 19 puppies survived—an incredible 80% survival rate," the humane society said in a Facebook post.
According to the humane society, all 15 puppies have been adopted and won't have any long-term effects from parvovirus.

THS said a new treatment, Elanco parvo medication, could increase survival rates to 99% for puppies battling the deadly and contagious virus. According to the humane society, they've treated over 50 cases of parvovirus so far this year.
For Giving Tuesday, THS said they are raising funds to be able to provide the treatment to dogs in need. Those wanting to donate can do so at this link. You can see how much has been raised here.
