TOLEDO, Ohio — UAW Local 12 members rejected a tentative contract agreement with Stellantis, according to a certified vote tally released by the union hall Wednesday night. 54.9% of the total membership voted no and 45.1% voted yes.
The contract was passing overwhelmingly nationwide in early voting at Stellantis. As of Wednesday night, the union’s vote tracker shows that nationwide, 66.1% voted in favor with many large factories yet to finish.
The proposed contract includes 25% in general wage increases over the next 4 1/2 years for top assembly plant workers, with 11% coming once the deal is ratified. Workers also will get cost-of-living pay that would bring the raises to a compounded 33%, with top assembly plant workers making more than $42 per hour. At Stellantis, top-scale workers now make around $31 per hour.
The contract would run through April 30, 2028.
Under the deal, the union said it saved jobs in Belvidere as well at an engine plant in Trenton, Mich., and the Toledo Machining Plant in Perrysburg Township.
The fate of the UAW's tentative agreement with GM was in doubt early Wednesday. The union's ratification tracker Wednesday showed about 52% of members had voted yes on the proposed contract.
Voting continues at Ford, where the deal was passing with 66.1% voting early Wednesday with only a few large factories still counting.
Since the tentative agreements were inked with the Big 3, more UAW members have hit the picket lines in a strike against another auto company locally.
Mobis North America workers began a strike early Wednesday after their contract expired late Tuesday without a new contract.
Mobis supplies the chassis for the Jeep Gladiator, one of the Toledo Assembly Complex's biggest sellers. Ahead of the contract deadline, UAW Local 12 President Bruce Baumhower told WTOL 11 that a strike would immediately shut down production of the vehicle.
