TOLEDO, Ohio — Although Thanksgiving has not happened yet, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the 2000 block of Nevada Street in east Toledo.
WTOL 11 went out to see how the Lighting Up Nevada light display was coming along, back in October.
Display creator Jason Kendall said he'd finally put the finishing touches on his annual 100,000 light display the second week of November. This is the fourth year for the annual holiday light's display, and he's managed to convince more neighbors to join in on the fun.
This year's display has 10 homes actively participating in the event, and several more signed up for next year.
Kendall said everyone in his neighborhood should be able to enjoy some festive lights this holiday season. It's why this display is free to go through as many times as they'd like. He said, visitors can get out and walk or just drive through.
"The best part is walking through the arches," Kendall said.
Visitors can even drop off letters for Santa and Kendall said Santa does write back. He explained how doing things like this for free just makes sense.
"People on the east side can't afford to always go to the zoo because it's so expensive. This is a free thing to do in the community and also something I started to [honor] one of my neighbors that passed away, who did this in my neighborhood when I was a kid," Kendall said.
In years past, he said people tried to make donations, and this year those donations will be welcomed. Kendall said those interested in donating lights, can donate LED lights to be used, feel free to drop them off when you come by. Also, those interested in making a financial donation, are welcome to do so, and all funds will be used to purchase more lights.
