Friends raise money for Good Samaritan who lost his legs while helping at crash scene

Josh Graff was a volunteer for Project I Am, which put on the event.

MAUMEE, Ohio — The Village Idiot in Maumee was buzzing with acoustic music on Sunday afternoon, all to help raise money for  a man who was seriously injured while rushing to help at a car crash.

Josh Graff was struck by a car in October after running to assist victims of a crash on Jackman Road.

According to police reports, Graff positioned himself in front of one of the crashed vehicles that was partially blocking Jackman Road with his back facing oncoming traffic when another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction crashed into him.

Graff lost his leg as a result.

This act of selflessness profoundly altered Graff’s life.

Now his friends want to help him with his medical bills. Graff had just started a job last year and wasn't covered by insurance.

Graff was a volunteer for Project I Am, which raises money for people with autism, primarily through its Acoustics for Autism event.

Project I Am put on the event for Graff on Sunday.

“This is something special that we are doing because we have a dear friend that needs some help,” said Scott Hayes with Project I Am.

The Village Idiot was packed for the event and attendees say they were happy to support Josh who was not able to attend because of some medical issues.

Hayes says people who were unable to attend the event but still want to help can reach out to Project I Am, who will make sure donations get into the right hands.
