Yup... that's a big banana car

TOLEDO, Ohio — Folks lined up in west Toledo to ride in a giant banana on Sunday. For real.

The famous Big Banana Car was at Hanna’s Soft Serve Ice Cream on North Reynolds Road from noon to 9 p.m. to give banana lovers their chance to fulfill their wildest dream of taking a ride in what really does look like a giant banana.

People who want a ride are asked to pay what they can and bring their own car seats… oh, and wear something yellow.

The giant yellow fruit-themed vehicle has been traveling the country since 2011, bringing a sense of joy and whimsy to all who encounter it.

"They’re just shocked that there’s a banana that drives down the road. Literally cars have been following him into our parking lot," said Hannah's Soft Serve's Mandy Flagg.

The car began its life as a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup truck, and the owners say it is the world’s only motorized banana.

The Big Banana Car has a local connection too. Construction of the machine began in Bowling Green, Ohio, in 2009, according to bigbananacar.com.
