TOLEDO, Ohio — One of the biggest and best high school marching bands in the area gave a special performance on Saturday in front of a big crowd to celebrate the 80th birthday of retired music director Edward Dixon Sr.
The Scott High School Dancing Machine Marching Band, along with the My5tery Music band and Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy Marching Lions and Dixon's friends and family from all over the country came to honor Mr. Dixon, who retired back in 2007 along with his wife Avie, who was also a teacher and band leader.
The celebration took place in the gymnasium at Scott kicked off with performances before speakers shared memories of the longtime music director.
“I'm not surprised by who's here and I'm not surprised about the wide array of people that are here that are all connected by this man,” said Dixon’s son, Edward Bernard Dixon Jr. “These people might not even know each other. So it's great to see everyone come out and celebrate his 80 years on this earth."
Mr. Dixon worked at Scott High School for 31 years.
