Toledo Botanical Garden wins first place for their whimsical creation

The west Toledo Metropark won the 2023 Landscape Design challenge, utilizing upside-down trees in their colorful design.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A big honor for the staff at Toledo Botanical Garden this week.

Metroparks Toledo announced that a garden they created for the 2023 Landscape Design Challenge by All-America Selections was awarded a first place prize.

The competition asked participants to create a “whimsical garden.”

The staff utilized downed trees that had been flipped upside down and filled the root flairs with colorful annuals. They also created a topiary dragon.

The prize was for gardens with more than 100,000 visitors a year.

The garden was located on the Bancroft Street side of the sprawling complex.
