Monroe officers partner with kids for annual 'Shop With a Cop'

Monroe police officers put aside fighting crime to fight the holiday shopping crowds instead, grabbing carts and partnering with children for 'Shop With a Cop.'

MONROE, Mich. — The aisles at Walmart were a little busier than usual in Monroe on Wednesday.

Police officers put aside fighting crime to fight the holiday shopping crowds instead, grabbing carts and partnering with children for "Shop With a Cop."

Twenty kids paired off with officers to find the perfect gifts for the holiday season. Santa Claus even took time out of his busy schedule to stop by and visit with the participants.

The annual event is a way to bring children, ages 6 to 10 years old, together with police for an evening of connection, shopping and festive fun.

It is also a way to make sure Monroe area children have a great Christmas and learn how helpful and kind officers in law enforcement can be.

The holiday tradition is funded by donations to Monroe Police Charities, allowing each child to spend up to $150 on gifts, embodying the spirit of compassion and unity to create a special holiday shopping experience for everyone involved.
