New CrossFit gym opens in Perrysburg

New CrossFit location in Perrysburg brings excitement for healthy exercise and lifestyle for all.

PERRYSBURG, Ohio — Like the Phoenix, Crossfit Fenix Gym in Perrysburg is rising from the ashes.

Shane Bauman, co-owner and certified trainer at Crossfit Fenix, says he and his group of friends continued a dream after their favorite gym closed.

"Our original gym had to close and we got together," said Bauman. "The board got bigger and bigger. Eventually we started this space here and it grew into this awesome community already."

CrossFit exercise has grown in popularity over the last 20 years. According to Healthline, CrossFit is an alternative form of exercise which can bring many benefits, from physical strength, to increased cardio and flexibility, and being able to manage your weight.

"I've been doing CrossFit personally for about ten years and it's changed my life as far as health wise," said Bauman. "If somebody commits to it, CrossFit can change anyone's life to just live a more functional, be able to move better, healthier overall life."

Amanda Charniga, a certified trainer at CrossFit Fenix, says the world of CrossFit also offers community. She says that's what brought her to coaching.

"It really helps everybody stay involved and get really excited to be here. And it helps you stay active," said Charniga.

Bauman says at the end of the day, Crossfit Fenix is about growth in more ways than one. Inclusively building friendships, while staying healthy and having fun.

"It doesn't matter your age, your ability level, if you've never worked out before or if you're an advanced athlete," said Charniga. "It's really going to be a great place and we'll meet you where you are. "

Bauman agrees.

"It's a new beginning for a lot of people," said Bauman. "It can be a new beginning for anybody that wants to get on a journey to health and fitness. "

Crossfit Fenix, located on Williams Rd. in Perrysburg, lists 10 different trainers on their web site. They offer monthly memberships - as well as drop-in classes. Click here for more information.
