TOLEDO, Ohio — Leaders at Pilgrim Church in west Toledo are working to ensure everyone in need has warm clothes and a full stomach year-round.
Housed inside this church is Project Dignity, a place where families and care providers can receive clothing, food, shoes and other necessities for children. Leaders described the project as a "safe grace-filled center of health and hope," somewhere all people in the greater Toledo area can receive needed assistance. Visitors can receive clothing every six months, and sizes from children to adults are offered.
Because of the high demand, organizers are asking potential visitors to call and book an appointment before stopping by. So far, they said they have helped 120 families get the proper clothes that they need.
Not only do they provide clothes but they are making sure every Thursday there’s a drive through-style food pantry. Leaders with the church said they noticed the increased need when the COVID-19 pandemic first started and that need still continues to grow.
"Since COVID, the need has continued to rise, and I haven’t seen a decline yet," Nicole Burkholder, Director of Special Ministries said. "We went from serving 75 households to about 200 households weekly."
Pilgrim Church is looking for volunteers to help out. If you are interested or need help, click here or call 419-478-6012.
