Findlay, Genoa Art Van locations to rebrand amid nationwide closures

Tony Rettig has owned the store since 1981 and says anyone with orders at the Findlay location will receive their product.

FINDLAY, Ohio — While Art Van Furniture announced Thursday that it will close all of its company-owned stores, service will be seamless in the Findlay and Genoa areas as leaders at both locations have announced they will rebrand and keep going.

Tony Rettig has owned the Findlay location since 1981 and in 2015, Rettig Brothers rebranded to join the Art Van family. With the announcement Thursday, Rettig said his franchise location will be rebranded to Rettig Furniture and Mattress.

There will be no worker cuts and most of the staff has been there 25-30 years. Rettig says he loves the community and loves the business.

Anyone with orders at the Findlay location will receive their products, and Rettig says he can try to help Toledo-area customers who have purchased from Art Van.

"The Rettig family has been blessed with the opportunity to serve the home furnishings needs of Findlay and its surrounding communities for over 39 years and will continue to do so for many years to come," a news release from Rettig said. "To all our faithful customers we will be open for business as usual. If you currently have furniture on order at Art Van Findlay, your orders will be delivered and serviced by Rettig Furniture and Mattress."

A post made by the Art Van Genoa location on Facebook said the the story would be rebranding as "Samsen Furniture and Mattress."

The store is owned and operated by Doug Samsen and the family has been in the business for more than 60 years.

The Grand Opening of the new store has yet to be announced, but Samsen said updates and countdowns will be featured on the store's Facebook page.

Art Van was founded by Art Van Elslander, who opened his first furniture store in Detroit in 1959 and grew it to the number one furniture and mattress retailer in the Midwest, according to the company. Going out of business sales at all company-owned Art Van stores will begin on March 6.
