BUFFALO, N.Y. — Starbucks made two big announcements on Wednesday.

The first is that the popular holiday menu and cups will return on Thursday, Nov. 7. The second is that when you order those festive holiday drinks, you will no longer pay an upcharge for customizing them with nondairy options, such as soy, oat, almond, and coconut milk.

"Substituting a non-dairy milk in a handcrafted beverage is the second-most requested customization from Starbucks customers, and with this change, almost half of Starbucks current customers who pay to customize their beverage will see a price reduction," Starbucks said Wednesday in a statement, announcing the moves.

Brian Niccol, the Starbucks chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement that the move came with careful consideration.

"I made a commitment that we’d get back to Starbucks, focusing on what has always set Starbucks apart: A welcoming coffeehouse where people gather and we serve the finest coffee handcrafted by our skilled baristas,” Niccol said. "This is just one of many changes we’ll make to ensure a visit to Starbucks is worth it every time."

The change will apply to all Starbucks company-owned and operated stores nationwide and in Canada.
