TOLEDO, Ohio — Those planning to travel for the holidays appear to be in luck when it comes to gas prices.
Patrick DeHaan with GasBuddy said prices this holiday are the lowest they've been this time of the year since 2020.
"I just drove down Sylvania Avenue in Sylvania and it was $3.19, and my husband told me this morning that Sheetz had the gas for $2.59 yesterday, so why not?" said Lynn Fournier, a Toledo resident filling up gas at Sheetz on Dorr Street.
Many are traveling out their way to get those ideal prices which some said they've found at the Sheetz on Dorr Street.
"Over there gas is $3.19 on the other side of the bridge, and it's like $2.59 over there at Kroger and it's $2.52 here, so what's an extra block to save some money?" Art Upton, another resident in Toledo said.
"I just rode by a couple of gas stations and they are $3.07, $3.09, so you know when you're on a fixed income, you got to make the best bang for a buck," Rick Suiter from Toledo said.
However, some of these places where people are finding the most bang for their buck could change.
"For stations that have not yet gone up that are at $2.50 or $2.60, there are still some of those stations, they probably will be raising their price here today," Patrick DeHaan, Gas Buddy's head petroleum analysis said. "For stations that have already gone up to $3.19 a gallon, look for those higher price stations to start undercutting or lowering their price every day a few cents between now and Thanksgiving."
DeHaan said prices in the state of Ohio right now are showing on average $2.90 a gallon, and in Toledo, $2.81 a gallon.
"All in all gas prices in Toledo, still about 17 cents lower than last year. So still not a bad time to hit the road," DeHaan said. "If you're heading out of the state, you'll probably want to fill up in Ohio, especially if you're heading east into areas like Pennsylvania prices tend to be much higher. You may find a little bit lower prices if you head into Kentucky and down into West Virginia. By large, Ohio tends to be a state with some of the lower prices amongst your neighbors."
