HANCOCK COUNTY, Ohio — The Habitat for Humanity branch in Hancock County celebrated a milestone this week.
And its for a service that many don't realize the organizations offers.
Habitat for Humanity has made its name in building homes for first time homeowners who otherwise couldn't afford them.
But in Hancock County, this Habitat branch offers another service, home repair.
Averaging a $1,000 to $1,500 budget per project, the goal is to make a current home warmer, safer, or dryer for their owners.
And this week, the Hancock County branch is celebrating their 100th home repair project.
Volunteer crews are spending the week helping 77-year-old Marlene Alexander replace flooring and install a new sink.
The service not only helps alleviate blight in communities, but ensure low income or elderly homeowners can remain in their homes.
"If you already own a home, you want to stay there, you want to age there; it's familiar, it's comfort. So, we want to try to help maintain that," said Shelly Dermer, Family Services Coordinator with Habitat for Humanity.
