TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Thirteen Toledo Fire and Rescue crew members received the Ohio Fire Service Valor Award from Ohio Fire Marshal Larry Flowers on Wednesday.
Two crews were awarded the honors for their efforts on two separate fire runs.
The fire department says Capt. Joseph Camerato, Private Robert Thomas, Private Rachel Doran, Private Jared Davis, Private Christopher Mrkva, Private Jason Hart and Private Claudia Rodriguez lifted a vehicle off of a pedestrian who had been struck by the car. The patient was lifeless while under the car, but immediately regained vital signs and was given a chance at survival when the car was lifted, the department says.
Also receiving the award Wednesday were Lt. Kathy Zeller, Lt. Ronald Murd, Private Holly Bennett, Private Daniel Desmond, Private Kristin Limmer and Private Jason Ziemke. The department says Lt. Murd was the first on the scene to a fire on Dover Street, and entered the burning home twice to rescue a mother, father and daughter. Unfortunately the daughter died from injuries sustained in the fire, but the mother and father made a full recovery.
