Police have identified the driver of a semi-truck involved in the crash of an Archbold school bus that was caught on video.
Dustin Buehrer said he is grateful his sons are okay after almost being hit in the crash.
As the kids were getting off the bus and being dropped off in front of their father’s business, the school bus driver yelled and told them to get out of the way.
In a matter of seconds, the crash unfolded.
Although no one was hurt, the video alarmed some people.
“When she’s seen it she told them to run and so thankfully that got them as far away from the bus as they did so,” said Buehrer.
After the crash, Buehrer checked his security camera and saw that it had captured what happened, so he posted the video on his business Facebook page.
It quickly went viral.
“Just shared it so that maybe it can help save someone else’s life and maybe make awareness so people can pay attention and focus on the road,” said Buehrer.
The superintendent of Archbold schools, Jayson Selgl, said he is grateful everyone involved in the crash is okay. “When I arrived on the scene it was pretty scary. After seeing what it looked like, thankfully everyone was okay because it did not appear that way when we pulled up” he said.
But now, Archbold school leaders are reminding everyone the importance of school bus safety along with the importance of the bus drivers job. Their buses are equipped with cameras inside and outside. They said they hope this situation will resonate with everyone who thinks passing a school bus is not that big of a deal.
“The video is pretty scary to watch, I mean you see the importance of seconds and you see this particular driver and she reacted perfectly, her instincts were amazing” said Selgl. “You know when you're going through a school zone and while sometimes those can seem burdensome, there's a reason those are the laws and the rules” he said.
At this time the crash is still under investigation. We do not know if charges will be or have been filed yet.
