Findlay museum commemorates lunar landing with unique exhibit

Mazza Museum displays art from children's books for the landing's 50th anniversary.

FINDLAY, Ohio — A special art exhibit is on display to help commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing next month.

University of Findlay's Mazza Museum has created a special exhibit consisting of works already in their archive.

Located on the Catherine Freed Galleria Wall, the original artworks depict the historic event as well as stories featuring the moon itself. The art created specifically for children's books ranges from realistic to cartoonish, and everything in between.

The exhibit also features a special piece from Wendel Minor, who was the ghostwriter for Buzz Aldrin's autobiography.

Since space is a common theme found in children's books, the museum was easily able to fill the galleria wall with art that specifically will help children to be inspired by the events of July 20, 1969.

"So, for a show like this where we wanted it to revolve around a moon theme, it was quite surprising how specific we could get. That we actually had books that featured art work of the rocket, of the astronauts, of the moon," Mazza Museum curator Dan Chudzinski said.

The special art exhibit will be on display through the end of the year.
