TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Time to get your game on! BASHCON is back at the University of Toledo's Student Union Auditorium this weekend.

This is the 29th year the even has come to UT. And what would a weekend of role-playing at BASHCON be without a little bashing?

One group played a full-contact medieval sport called Dagorhir. Combatants dress in period costumes, fighting each other with harmless foam-covered javelins.

"It's a great catalyst for letting out steam," said gamer Colin Leitz.

"Because I get to beat up my buddies and have a good time when the fighting is done," added one participant.

Attendance at BASHCON grows every year; 1,200 visitors are expected this weekend.

Vendors are also there selling the hottest games, costumes and props.

"It definitely is a growing hobby," said Clayton Notestine. "It keeps getting bigger every year."

People also attend for role-playing board games like 'Shadowrun.' It's set in a near-futuristic universe.

"The players play as runners," explained gamer Phil Drexler. "They are hired by giant corporations to do illegal things like plant bombs, kidnap people, push guys off bikes and steal their wallets. Fun stuff."

Admission to BASHCON is free to students, faculty and staff of the University of Toledo. For everyone else, it's $15.00.
