Bill passes through Ohio House allowing Sunday distilled spirits sales

The bill still needs to be approved by the Senate.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) has announced that the Ohio House has passed legislation Thursday that will allow Sunday sales of distilled spirits products statewide.

"Allowing Sunday sales across Ohio will increase consumer convenience and provide additional choice for shoppers," DISCUS vice president of state government relations David Wojnar said in a press release. "Expanding Sunday sales will also provide a significant boost in state and local business revenues. The Senate should act quickly to pass this bill to support Ohio consumers and businesses," he explained.

DISCUS submitted testimony for the bill, HB 674, last week. Should the Senate pass the bill and the legislation go into effect, localities will have the ability to opt out through local election.

Currently, 43 states allow the sale of distilled spirits on Sunday, including four Ohio neighboring states of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia.
