TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Parents can now find out where their kids will likely go to school after redistricting. If the school board agrees, the new redistricting plan will take effect for the 2018-19 school year.
The district is making it easy for parents to figure out if their kids will go to a new school and from where they'll graduate.
On Thursday, WTOL was the first to report highlights of the potential final plan and today, the district released the maps developed by a task force.
All elementary schools will stay K through 5, junior highs will remain 6 through 8, and the high schools will continue to house 9th to 12th graders.
The district's leader of teaching and learning, Adam Fineske, showed how parents can type in their address on the district's website. It's something you can do on the district's website under the redistricting tab.
"We'll put the address here of our current building that we're sitting in now,"Fineske said. "So if you were to click on this, a pin drops right in the area that you would go to elementary school, if you lived in this building, which you would attend Whiteford. So, Whiteford Elementary.
One of the biggest factors in making the new lines was the growth in the southwestern part of the district. There are a lot of homes under construction, like at the development at Brookside.
Redistricting evens out enrollment but leaves room for schools that will see growth, like Southview High School. And most students will have "direct feeding," meaning they can stay with their friends until graduation.
Fineske showed how Hillview, Maplewood and Whiteford, would attend Arbor Hills Junior High, and then would go to Northview High.
In addition, students at Central Trail and Stranahan Elementary schools currently go to Timberstone Junior High and then onto Southview High. They will remain the same.
Highland and Sylvan Elementary students will attend McCord Junior High but then Highland students would end up at Northview High and Sylvan students would attend Southview.
The Stranahan preschool would move to Maplewood Elementary for the 2018-19 year, under the redistricting plan.
The school board should vote on the final plan on May 22.
