Cedar Point celebrates re-opening with discounts

Cedar Point and Soak City have reopened Monday morning after a water main break closed the parks for most of the weekend.

SANDUSKY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Cedar Point and Soak City have reopened Monday morning after a water main break closed the parks for most of the weekend.

The amusement parks closed their gates Saturday around 11 a.m. and visitors already in the park had to be evacuated due to the break.

People staying at three hotels near the parks, Hotel Breakers, Sandcastle Suites and Lighthouse Point, also had to leave on Saturday. The park remained closed on Sunday.

Visitors received word of the closing over the park PA system.

Park visitor Michelle Fuller says things didn't seem normal.

"We rode our first ride and overheard some of the workers talking about conserving their water. And then when we stopped at the first restroom, they told us it was closed," said Ms. Fuller.

Park visitor Anna Aester agreed.

"Like it was weird in the park. Nothing was open. All the bathrooms were closed. Rides were closing. Seems like something was weird," said Ms. Aester.

The mass exodus created monster traffic jams around the causeway as people tried to leave.

Drivers were warned by the Ohio Department of Transportation to avoid the area.

"It took us another hour to get out of the park and around the city and back in traffic. Not one thing Cedar Point did well getting people out of the park. There was no organization at all," said Ms. Fuller.

Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark Resort and Breakers Express, were unaffected by the water main break.

According to Cedar Point officials, the City of Sandusky experienced a water main break early Saturday morning on the main line that supplies water to Cedar Point. The city has completed the necessary repairs to the main water line into Cedar Point.

All guest tickets from Saturday and Sunday will be honored on future dates this season.

"Those that were already here and again, those that had tickets, we either offered them a full refund on their tickets if they couldn't come back or they can use that ticket any other time this summer," said spokesperson Bryan Edwards.

Cedar Point announced on Sunday, "In celebration of our reopening, we're offering a special money-saving deal to our valued guests - the H20 Offer! Buy a one-day Cedar Point admission ticket now through Sunday, June 15 and receive a FREE Soak City ticket!"

The Cedar Point one-day ticket for this offer is $39.99, a savings of $20 off the gate price.
