$50M expansion at Johns Manville plant in Defiance announced

Johns Manville fiberglass has been a pillar of the Defiance community since the 1950′s and their Carpenter Road facility will soon see a large scale expansions.

DEFIANCE (WTOL) - Defiance’s largest employer has announced a major, multi-million-dollar expansion.

Johns Manville fiberglass has been a pillar of the Defiance community since the 1950′s and their Carpenter Road facility will soon see a large scale expansions.

Last week, their parent company announced a $50 million investment , which will add new lines to the plant and add 24 new jobs.

Construction is expected to begin this spring and the new line should be up and running by 2020

Johns Manville has plants across the country and for Defiance County officials, it is a huge win to see this new line coming here.

“We feel it provides probably a couple of decades of stability, in that it increases their investment in Defiance, and it increases the activity and vitality of pipe insulation manufacturing,” said Jerry Hayes, Director of Defiance County Economic Development.

And with that announcement of the expansion of the Johns Manville plant, the city of Defiance has announced they will be using state funds to extend Commerce Drive from Carpenter road to attach to Domersville Road, giving trucks easier access to US 24.
