'I'm glad to do it': Browns players volunteer at Greater Cleveland Food Bank to help neighbors shop for Thanksgiving

Several past and present Cleveland Browns players volunteered their time Monday at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.

CLEVELAND — Picture this: Hundreds of Cleveland neighbors walking into the Greater Cleveland Food Bank's Community Resource Center. Not with worry, but with hope. Not counting pennies, but counting blessings.

This isn't just about turkey. This is about community.

"We ordered six full truckloads of turkeys back in April," Kristin Warzocha, CEO of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, tells me.

We're talking $216,000 worth of holiday meals, distributed across 1,000 programs in six different counties:

  • 6 truckloads of turkeys
  • $216,000 in donations
  • 1,000 community programs reached
  • 14 nonprofit partners fighting food insecurity

On Monday, Cleveland Browns alumni were here. Greg Pruitt, Al Jenkins, David Mays — legends who understand what it means to give back.

"We all have something in common," Pruitt said. "We started from humble beginnings."

Jenkins puts it simply: "Anytime I have the opportunity to help someone, I'm glad to do it."

Current Browns center Ethan Pocic shares a moment that captures the day's spirit.

"My dad was a firefighter, my mom a home hospice nurse," he explained. "They always instilled that hard work mentality."

Warzocha emphasizes something crucial: "We're committed to making this a place where people feel welcome, where they feel joy and support."

This isn't just about feeding families. It's about connecting them to resources, to hope, to community.
