Dundee police to shop with area children, parents for annual holiday 'Shop with a Cop'

The 14 participating children were selected based on family needs and recommendations from the Dundee Community School District.

DUNDEE, Michigan — Dundee police are hosting their annual "Shop with a Cop" event Thursday to support 14 children who were selected based on family needs and recommendations from the Dundee school district. 

Children will be each paired with a police officer and given $150 to buy anything they would like to have or gift during the holiday season. Each family will also be provided with a $150 grocery gift card, according to a press release from the Dundee Police Department. 

Funding for the event comes from the Dundee Police Department VIPS organization annual spring golf outing. The Oregon, Ohio Clean Energy Corporation and Lake Erie Transit of Monroe also provided funding to support the event, according to the release.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the village office, where pizza, cookies and soft drinks will be provided. At 6 p.m., children and parents will take the "Santa Express" bus to the Telegraph Road Walmart in Monroe. Police will also escort the bus.
