TOLEDO, Ohio — There's more to NASA than just astronauts. Behind the scenes, teams across the nation work to advance space flight and improve the safety of future missions.

One of those teams is based nearby in Cleveland and one of those team members just happens to be a graduate of the University of Toledo! Ashlie Flegel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo in 2007 and went on to get her Masters from Cleveland State University.

Flegel has eleven years of experience in numerous jobs related to the aerospace industry, currently functioning in the lead role of Advanced Aircraft Engine Icing Technical Lead at Cleveland's NASA Glenn Research Center. That job entails working to further understand aircraft engines and airframe icing, to improve detection and prevention of icing on an aircraft--which often can prove dangerous or even deadly.

On Friday, July 17, Flegel will join Imagination Station Chief Scientist Carl Nelson for a special conversation about her job at NASA and answer viewer questions.

The goal is to inspire the next generation of engineers and emphasize that there are plenty of opportunities at NASA, without ever needing to leave planet Earth!

While Imagination Station is closed, this is part of an ongoing effort to offer virtual educational programming.

The "Conversation with Carl featuring Ashlie Flegel" is scheduled for 10 a.m.-11 a.m. on Friday and can be viewed live at Imagination Station's Facebook page.
