FINDLAY, Ohio — There's a new breakfast and brunch spot in Flag City.
Opened in mid-April, The Toasted Yolk Cafe quickly found a dedicated group of breakfast-loving patrons in Findlay.
Owner Doug Craig said he wanted to open a new restaurant in Findlay that was needed after he sold his former business, Dougie John's Pizza, in downtown.
"We went to several of them and I thought this would do really well in Findlay because they don't have anything like this," Craig said.
The franchise specializes in breakfast and brunch with a touch of southern cuisine. It also offers a lunch menu and a full bar seven days a week from 7 am to 3 p.m.
"If you get a full set of pancakes you're not going to be able to eat them all, our portion sizes are very large," Craig said. "What differentiates us from other breakfast places would be our vibe here, we have a very modern vibe. We also have a full bar here, so you can get mimosas and bloody marys in the morning or afternoon. We also have southern cuisine, which you won't see in Findlay right now."
Customer Brenda Merritt said the variety of the menu caught her eye.
"I saw all of these delightful things on the menu and I was like 'I've got to try some more,'" Merritt said.
This is the first Toasted Yolk Café location in Ohio, and the plan is for the franchise to continue to grow nationwide.
The folks in the Flag City were thrilled to finally have a new restaurant and breakfast spot on the east side of town.
"It's nice. I'd go anywhere. Anywhere the food is good." Dee Waaland, who was back for a second visit, said.
Dave Thomas, who is already considered a regular, agreed.
"It's good to have a good breakfast place on this side. I live on this side of town, so it helps me out a lot," Thomas said.
Craig has signed on for three Toasted Yolk franchises.
Findlay is the first, so he has two more to find a landing spot either in northwest Ohio or the rest of the Buckeye State.
