TOLEDO, Ohio — Get out and enjoy the exciting events happening around the Glass City this weekend!

FRIDAY

Toledo Walleye opening game of the season

You've waited all summer for them to return and Friday, the Walleye are back in action at home for a new season. Friday's game against the Reading Royals not only kicks off another season of great ECHL hockey in Toledo, but fans in the Glass City will get their first look at new head coach Pat Mikesch. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. For tickets, check here.

To kick the new season off right, the Walleye are hosting a party from 4-6 p.m. Friday in Hensville Park. The event will feature live music from The Skittle Bots, appearances by Coach Mikesch and Walleye alumni, the Spike tunnel, an inflatable hockey rink, cornhole games and food and drink from Fleetwood's Tap Room. The party is free and open to the public.

Toledo Symphony Orchestra 80th Birthday Bash

The symphony will celebrate its 80th birthday with a concert that features variations on its inaugural concert, which included works by Mozart, Ravel and Brahms. British pianist Nicholas McCarthy, who was born without a right hand, will perform Ravel's Piano Concert for Left Hand.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. Friday in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. For tickets, check here.

Findlay Fall ArtWalk

Findlay's popular ArtWalk event, which allows art lovers to check out the work from artists throughout downtown, will have its fall event this weekend.

Artists will display their work throughout downtown, in local shops, restaurants and other businesses. Also check out displays at the Findlay Art League, Marathon Center for the Performing Arts and Jones Building Artists' Studios.

The free event is in downtown Findlay from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

SATURDAY

Mammoth cheese wheel cutting in Perrysburg

Remember when the classic Toledo department store Tiedtke's used to bring a giant wheel of cheese to town for the holidays each year? Well even if it is new to you, Walt Churchill's Market is carrying on the beloved Toledo holiday cheese tradition.

This year's holiday cheese cutting will feature a 2,000-pound holiday cheddar produced by Henning's Cheese of Kiel, Wisconsin. The cheese team at Churchill's Market at 26625 North Dixie Highway in Perrysburg will perform the ceremonial slicing at 2 p.m. Saturday. The cheese sliced that day -- along with 3,500 more pounds of the special Christmas cheddar -- will be for sale.

For every pound of holiday cheddar sold this season, Churchill's will donate $1 to Toys for Tots.

The cheese-slicing celebration also will feature dancers from the Toledo Ballet's production of The Nutcracker and the Perrysburg High School Choir.

Toledo Comic Arts Festival

Explore the art of cartooning, hear from comic authors, create and decorate your own superhero masks, try some hero training and more at this festival organized by the Toledo Lucas County Public Library. The event aims to promote the diversity of comics from a wide range of creators, encourage comics reading and celebrate visual literacy.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Main Library, 325 Michigan Street in downtown Toledo.

SUNDAY

Sounds of the Stadium at BGSU

Didn't get enough of that great Saturday-afternoon marching band groove this football season? The Bowling Green State University marching band will perform a special concert for you Sunday.

Sounds of the Stadium will feature music from all of this year's football halftime shows, plus more favorite tunes.

The concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Stroh Center located at 1535 East Wooster Street in Bowling Green.
