OAK HARBOR, Ohio — Grab your best basket and get ready to hunt for some Easter eggs in Oak Harbor. A long-running event is back for another year.

The Oak Harbor Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for March 23, the Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday. It is free to the public and open to children 12 years old and younger.

Interested participants should gather in the street in front of the post office on N. Church Street by 2 p.m. on March 23. The first part of the event, the traditional Easter egg hunt, will begin in Adolphus Kraemer Park and will be followed by a candy hunt in downtown Oak Harbor.

The Easter egg hunt at the park will be divided by age groups. With the exception of children under 3 years old, parents will not be allowed in the park. Kids will have a chance to hunt for eggs alone and gather as many as they can. Children should bring a basket for the hunt.

In total, organizers go through 4,000 eggs for the hunt in Adolphus Kraemer Park, according to Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Valerie Winterfield.

After the hunt at the park, children will receive a number from a volunteer on Church Street and visit participating downtown Oak Harbor businesses for a candy hunt. Fifty lucky egg-hunters whose numbers match a randomly preselected number will win a "golden egg basket" filled with toys.

To cap off the event, the Easter Bunny will be at the Log Cabin at Adolphus Kraemer Park until 4 p.m. for pictures. As a bonus, children who visit the Easter Bunny will get a "special treat."

Oak Harbor's Easter egg hunt started with hard-boiled eggs and has evolved over the years. The first hunt was at least 70 years ago, Winterfield said.
