TOLEDO, Ohio — Tandoor Cuisine of India has been a longstanding staple of the 419 since 1982, and from the first bite of the family's curry it is clear to see why.
While the food is undeniably great, the family atmosphere makes you want to keep coming back. And while dine-in isn't much of an option in the era of COVID, you'll still get a warm smile when you approach the aptly placed pickup window near the front door.
The shop's specialty is in northern Indian cuisine and the family prides themselves on using only the freshest and most select spices, and they know how to use them wisely. Just one bite of their specialty, the tandoori chicken, and it is clear to see you're not dealing with amateurs.
This meal is cooked in a tandoor, (sound familiar?) which is a traditional Indian oven made of thick clay. The oven is used to cook meats, fish and seafood as well as the delicious naan, which when dipped into the shop's variety of chutney's is an experience all to itself.
And there are plenty of options for those with differing dietary needs. The Tandoor menu is full of vegetarian meals that rival their meat-filled counterparts.
While it is disappointing to be unable to get the full family atmosphere that Tandoor is known for, you can still enjoy its traditional meals cooked with both experience and gumption.
