Toledo Library to host youth writing contest, offer prizes for winning stories

The contest returns with a fall-theme for kids aspiring to write stories.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Power up those pens! The youth writing contest is returning to the Toledo Lucas County Public Library system, where local kids can win prizes for their short stories. 

The contest is open to youth in grades K-12. According to their website, stories can be about anything at all -- but must include the word "pumpkin."

Winning prizes are separated by grade-level categories: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. There are several prizes, including a 1st place prize of a Nintendo Switch Lite for grades K-8, and Beats Studio Buds for grades 9-12. A full list of prizes and more contest information can be viewed here.  

There are a few guidelines for submissions:

  • The story must be an original work
  • Include a beginning, middle and end
  • Contain no more than 500 words
  • Be handwritten or typed

The deadline for the contest is Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022.
