Toledo Police plan focus on community Quality of Life

Although they work in the neighborhoods, the officers say they can't see and hear it all and they are hoping you can be their eyes and ears.

TOLEDO, Ohio — If you have a new idea on improving the quality of your neighborhood, the Toledo Police Department is asking you to share it with them.

TPD created the Quality of Life community meetings to help direct their initiatives for 2023. They say their plan is to replace crime by being more present and interactive with the community. The idea is that Toledo residents spend most of their days in the neighborhood, so they may see more than the average police officer who travels throughout multiple neighborhoods while on duty.

Although they work in the neighborhoods, the officers say they can't see and hear it all and they are hoping you can be their eyes and ears.

"When we have the community come into these meetings, they can better tell us what they are experiencing - what they are seeing because they live there, they are there 24 hours a day," said Lieutenant Paul Davis with TPD. "So, we need them to partner with us in this and tell us their cares and concerns and comments and maybe some ways we can do things better," said Davis.

He says the department can't change the city on their own.

"So, we need them to partner with us in this and tell us their cares and concerns and comments and maybe some ways we can do things better," he said.

The Quality of Life community meetings are also created to focus on maintaining the environment. TPD wants residents to let them know about crime in the community but also about abandoned cars, trash clean up, hazards and more.

TPD says if you have an idea that could improve the quality of your neighborhood, they are open to hearing you out.
