TOLEDO, Ohio — According to Toledo police, one person was shot on Friday night near Central Catholic High School following a football game against Springfield.
An early statement released by police suggested that officers heard a fight and at least one gunshot. However, TPD Lt. Kevan Toney later stated that at this point, they have found no evidence of a dispute leading up to the shooting.
Authorities said that following the incident, one victim approached them on Mettler Street with an apparent gunshot wound. That victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Authorities have not yet identified the victim. However, they were able to say the person shot was a 16-year-old male and was not a student at either Central Catholic or Springfield.
Police have no suspects are collecting video surveillance to continue their investigation.
Central Catholic High School officials said that had staff available from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday to offer support for students, faculty and parents. They said that they will be meeting with the entire student body on Tuesday morning and will have additional support available at that time. Officials stated that an additional email will be sent next week with security updates that will be taking place for the next home football game.
