MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — Two teenagers in a stolen vehicle were apprehended after fleeing Monroe County authorities Sunday morning.
The incident began with a stolen vehicle complaint in the 7800 block of Kimberly Drive in Frenchtown Township at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough. The victim reported that their vehicle, a black Dodge Charger, had been stolen from their driveway sometime within the past hour.
A black Dodge Charger matching the description of the stolen vehicle was spotted shortly after 4:30 a.m. at N. Telegraph Road and Mall Road in Frenchtown Township, roughly 3 miles away. A deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, however the vehicle fled northbound on Telegraph Road, the sheriff said.
The suspects reached the intersection of N. Monroe Street and Telegraph Road, under 2 1/2 miles away from the attempted traffic stop, before driving off the road. The vehicle came to rest in the front yard of a nearby residence.
A lieutenant and two deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office apprehended the occupants of the vehicle, who were identified by the sheriff as a 13-year-old driver and his 14-year-old passenger, both from Monroe. The vehicle was confirmed to be the stolen Dodge Charger.
The 13-year-old driver was lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center for charges of fleeing and eluding, and receiving and concealing stolen property. The 14-year-old passenger was released to his guardian pending authorization of a warrant from the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office.
The case is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact 734-240-7511.
