15-year-old killed in central Toledo shooting Tuesday morning

According to police at the scene, a number of juveniles were playing basketball when a car driving by began shooting at them.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police are investigating after a teen was shot and killed early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to a home on Clinton Street in central Toledo around 3:30 a.m.

Officers at the scene confirmed to WTOL 11 that the teen killed in the shooting was 15 years old. In a subsequent press release, police identified the victim as DaVion Stribling. 

Stribling was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to TPD, several juveniles were standing outside and playing basketball when a car driving by began shooting at them.

No other injuries were reported. No arrests have been made at this time. 

According to a coroner's report, Stribling died at 3:50 a.m. from a "gunshot wound of the head." His death was ruled a homicide.

Stribling's death is the 7th juvenile homicide in Toledo in 2024, and the 6th juvenile homicide from gun violence. 

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call or text Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. You can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.

According to family members, Stribling loved basketball and was the oldest of 10 total children in the family. His family also said he attended Bennett Venture Academy.
