15-year-old in March shooting dies, suspect charged with murder

Robert Shields, 18, is charged with murder, but not yet in custody for allegedly shooting and killing Jaylah Perry, 15, on Sunday inside a central Toledo home.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A 15-year-old who was shot on March 17 in central Toledo has died.

According to Toledo police, the victim, Jaylah Perry, died on March 20 after Robert Shields, 18, allegedly shot her in the head on Sunday. Police charged Shields with murder but is not yet in custody, TPD said. He was originally charged with felonious assault.

Perry was shot inside a home in the 400 block of Park Street at approximately 6:15 a.m. The victim's sister was in the room when the shooting occurred, court documents said.

The Lucas County Coroner's Office said that Perry's cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the manner of death as a homicide.

In a social media post from Toledo police, Shields is described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
