MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — Two people were arrested Monday evening following a traffic stop in Monroe County where a man fled on foot, according to Michigan State Police.
MSP said that a trooper initiated a traffic stop on South Custer Road east of Ida-Maybee Road around 7:45 p.m. for a moving violation. Authorities said the driver, a 42-year-old man from Tecumseh, was suspected of operating while intoxicated.
According to Michigan State Police, as they attempted to place the driver into custody, the female passenger, a 35-year-old Tecumseh woman, attempted to interfere with the arrest of the driver.
MSP said while the trooper went to place the female passenger into custody for obstruction, the male driver fled on foot and "failed to comply with the verbal commands from the trooper."
Michigan State Police said the driver was located and taken into custody with assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Dundee Police Department.
Authorities said the driver was lodged at the Monroe County Jail and the charges being sought against him are operating while intoxicated, transporting open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and resisting and obstructing. MSP said the female passenger was arrested and lodged in jail for transporting open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and resisting and obstructing.
