TOLEDO, Ohio — A 23-year-old woman was arrested after Toledo police say she struck a 4-year-old and his mother in a crosswalk before fleeing on Saturday.
Police say Jessica Paola-Zaragoza Aguilar was driving a pickup truck on North Superior Street in downtown Toledo when she turned left onto Adams Street striking the 4-year-old and his mother.
According to police, Aguilar then fled the scene before being located by police.
Police say, Aguilar admitted to fleeing the scene due to not having a license and having illegal immigration status.
Police say the victim sustained a concussion, had a tooth knocked out, suffered from severe swelling, and was told by doctors that he may have long-term issues with his leg, involving the bone and muscle.
Aguilar was scheduled for arraignment on Monday, and was ultimately charged with first-degree misdemeanor assault.
