Two convicted in 2023 Adrian homicide

Jonathon Simmons, 27, was killed in the shooting.

ADRIAN, Mich. — Two people were convicted of charges relating to the 2023 homicide of 27-year-old Jonathon Simmons in 2023. 

According to Lenawee County Circuit Court records, Kenyatto Sylvertooth, who was 47 at the time of his arrest, was found guilty Monday of homicide - open murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle causing death and a felony firearm charge. 

Gage Winsett pleaded guilty to homicide - manslaughter and accessory after the fact to a felony. Winsett was 18 at the time of his arrest. 

27-year-old Simmons, of Detroit, was killed on Feb. 13, 2023. Sylvertooth and Winsett were arrested in August 2023 for the shooting. 

Adrian police said Adrian Township police, Michigan State police, Detroit police, the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office, the Michigan Department of Corrections and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms also assisted in the investigation.
