TOLEDO, Ohio — A teenager will spend seven years behind bars for his role in a June 2022 murder in west Toledo.
Jashawn Allen entered an Alford plea in June of this year and was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 17-year-old Antwan Walker.
An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt. A defendant entering an Alford plea agrees to be found guilty without admitting they committed the crime.
Allen was sentenced Wednesday by a Lucas County judge to seven years in prison.
A second suspect, Tayvion Price, was indicted in March. Allen and Price were indicted on one felony count each for charges of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and aggravated robbery.
Allen and Price were 16 and 15 years old respectively at the time of their arrests. Both were tried as adults.
Price initially entered a plea of not guilty in the case. On Nov. 21, he withdrew his plea and pleaded guilty to murder. Price is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing on Dec. 18.
Walker was shot in an alley between houses on Burnham and Vermaas avenues shortly before 7 p.m. on June 14, 2022, according to a Toledo police report. Walker was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital where he later died.
Police later arrested Price and Allen as suspects at a nearby residence.
