TOLEDO, Ohio — UPDATE: On Wednesday, Nov. 29, Solomon Lyons was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly bringing a loaded gun to Bowsher High School.

A Bowsher High School student was arrested after bringing a loaded gun in his backpack to Bowsher High School Wednesday morning.
According to Toledo police, the student was seen exiting the school during a weapons check before being confronted outside by school resource officers.
Officers attempted to escort the 19-year-old back inside the school when he began to resist the escort, police said. The student was then placed on the ground, taken into custody and taken back inside the school.
TPD said that after a search of the student's backpack, they found a loaded pistol.
He was treated by the school nurse for a minor cut on his knee before being transported to the TPD Investigation Services Bureau, according to police.
Toledo Police Schools provided the following statement Thursday afternoon:
"A Bowsher High School student was detained by officers yesterday after he refused to participate in a weapons check. The student was searched and a loaded handgun was found – the student was immediately taken into custody and now faces severe disciplinary action and criminal charges.
Students and staff members were safe during this time, and there were no direct threats made toward the school, to a student or staff member. The school day continued without interruption and parents were notified of the situation via an All Call from the principal.
Student safety is the number one priority for Toledo Public Schools and we appreciate the quick and professional actions of the school staff and officers who dealt with this incident."
This is now the third known incident of a TPS student being found with a loaded gun at a school this school year.
