TPD: 5-year-old struck by ATV after getting off the bus, taken to hospital Thursday

The 14-year-old ATV driver fled the scene after hitting the girl and was later arrested by Toledo police. The child was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A child is recovering from their injuries after being struck while crossing the street Thursday afternoon.

The 5-year-old was crossing Birchwood Avenue near Heatherdowns Boulevard after getting off the school bus shortly after 3:30 p.m. A 14-year-old driving an all-terrain vehicle lost control and struck the child.

The ATV driver fled the scene after hitting the child, police said. The driver was later arrested and booked into the Juvenile Justice Center.

The child was taken to the hospital and treated for minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
