Woman dies at scene of Bedford Township fire, sheriff's office investigating

First responders were dispatched to the fire in the 6200 block of S. Telegraph Road on Sunday and found the 76-year-old victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — A fatal fire is under investigation after a woman was found dead Sunday morning in Bedford Township.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 6200 block of S. Telegraph Road at Northtowne Meadows Mobile Home Park around 6:12 a.m. Sunday, according to a media release from Sheriff Troy Goodnough.

Deputies, along with the Bedford Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance, arrived on scene.

After making entry into the home, firefighters located 76-year-old Constance Marie Hites, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of Hites' death has not been disclosed.

The Monroe County Fire Investigation Team was called to conduct an investigation and process the scene, the sheriff said. The sheriff's office chaplain also responded to offer support to the victim's family.

The case is under investigation by detectives with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau. Anyone with information is asked to call the bureau at 734-240-7530.
