TOLEDO, Ohio — A second suspect wanted in a September central Toledo homicide has been arrested, according to court records.
Deontae Mitchell was arrested and transported to the Lucas County Jail Wednesday afternoon on charges of multiple counts of aggravated murder and felonious assault. Mitchell is accused alongside Kenan Smith in the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Isiah Pressley.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North Detroit Avenue, near This Is It Drinks & BBQ, at 1:57 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 for a call of shots fired.
Police said Smith picked up Mitchell in the 300 block of North Detroit Avenue after Mitchell was involved in an altercation inside the bar.
After driving around the block, police said Smith parked his car outside the bar. TPD said Mitchell then exited the car with a semi-automatic pistol and fired into a crowd of people, striking Pressley.
The Lucas County Coroner's Office said Pressley's cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and his manner of death is classified as a homicide.
Smith was arrested and charged with the following counts:
- 1 count of aggravated murder
- 2 counts of murder
- 6 counts of felonious assault
- 1 count of improperly discharging a firearm into habitation
- 15 counts of discharge firearm on or near prohibited premises
Smith was also indicted on one count of tampering with evidence. He was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court on Sept. 16 where a judge set his bond at $1 million.
Both suspects were indicted on Sept. 23, but it wasn't until Wednesday that Mitchell was in custody.
Mitchell will appear in court for an arraignment on Nov. 13.
