TOLEDO, Ohio — Three people were indicted Wednesday on murder charges after a man they allegedly assaulted in 2010 died last year.
According to a press release from Toledo police Thursday, Ruben Lopez, Ruben A. Lopez and Michael Lopez were charged with murder in the death of Dewayne Arnold. Court documents indicate all three suspects were indicted on the charges Wednesday.
The three suspects are accused of assaulting Arnold in an east Toledo parking lot on Nov. 2, 2010. A court document from the initial incident indicated that, following the assault, Arnold was resuscitated and taken to the hospital, where he was resuscitated again. Arnold was 41 years old at the time of the initial incident.
The suspects were initially charged with felonious assault in this case, but the charges were dismissed, police said.
Arnold suffered what police described as "critical injuries" and died on July 29, 2023, after which the Lucas County Coroner's Office ruled his death a homicide due to those injuries he sustained.
Police reopened the case on Wednesday.
Police did not indicate in the release that any of the suspects are in custody. Ruben Lopez was 54 years old at the time of the initial incident, while Ruben A Lopez was 33 and Michael Lopez was 30.
If you have information on this incident, police ask that you call or text Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. You can remain anonymous.
